If you don't find the answer to your question here, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes! An appointment with one of our artists is highly preferred. Since all of our artists are independent contractors they are the only ones who book their appointments. We do take the occasional walk-in so don't hesitate to give us a call.
How much does a tattoo cost?
Our shop minimum is $100. Some artists have induvial minimums. The cost of a tattoo is determined by a number of different factors, the most common being size, placement on the body, detail involved in the design, and color vs. black & grey. Each artist has a different rate/set price for a piece. Only your artist can accurately quote you.
I’m under the age of 18, can I get a tattoo if my parent/guardian signs for me?
No! The MN state law says that an individual must be at least 18 years of age to receive a tattoo, no exceptions. We are required to check and keep proof of age.
How clean is the procedure at Red Lotus?
We take your health and safety as our highest priority!
Performing tattoos in a safe, clean and responsible manner is our number one concern. In the course of performing tattoos, we take a variety of steps to help ensure your safety:
-
Our tattoo needles are purchased pre-sterilized from companies that are required to perform health coded monitoring. Needles are disposed of immediately after the tattoo is performed in the appropriate medical waste container. Needles are NEVER used more than once.
-
Our artists use disposable gloves for all tattoos. These gloves are changed throughout the procedure to avoid contamination with client and surfaces in the tattoo space.
-
In addition to new single use needles and disposable gloves, you will also always see disposable ink holders, disposable razors, and disposable plastic barriers covering everything that is used in the tattoo procedure.
-
Beds, tables, trays, and anything used in the procedure that is not disposable or "once use" is cleaned with hospital grade Cavicide.
What should I expect during my first tattoo?
If you've never been tattooed it is normal to be a little nervous as well as excited. Being properly prepared will help keep the experience fun. Everyone will have a slightly different experience when getting tattooed, but there are a few things you should keep in mind:
-
If you haven't eaten recently, your blood sugar is more likely to become low, increasing the chance for feeling lightheaded.
-
NO Alcohol before your appointment. In addition to making you dehydrated, the alcohol will make you bleed more, consequently having a negative effect on your new tattoo. Red Lotus will NOT tattoo anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
-
The amount of pain will also vary from person-to-person. In most cases however, the anticipation of getting tattooed is far worse than actually getting tattooed. The best way to deal with the discomfort is to relax and remember to breath. Tensing up and/or trying to fight the pain will increase your discomfort and make it harder for our artists to tattoo you.
-
If you start to feel lightheaded, dizzy or faint, tell your artist right away. There is nothing wrong with taking a break. Trying to "tough it out" will only make you more uncomfortable and take the fun out of your tattoo experience.
Does it hurt?
Yes. Although each spot on the body is different. Some places hurt more than others. All of our artists do their absolute best to make sure you're comfortable and in the least amount of pain they can control. The pain is very mild and is usually more annoying than actually painful!
Can I get tattooed if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Based upon the recommendations of doctors and other industry professionals and experts, we don't perform any tattoos on women who are pregnant. We also typically require that at least 3 months have passed, whether breastfeeding or not, before we will perform any tattooing services. This is something an artist can discuss with you if the situation arises.
With so many other shops in Minnesota, why should I come to Red Lotus Tattoo for a tattoo?
Because we are a high end, custom tattoo parlor, that specializes in both large and small scale, hand drawn custom artwork at an affordable price. Our artists will go the extra mile to ensure that you, the client, has the best possible experience from the moment you walk through the door, right up until you walk out the door.
